At the LAMS2009 conference Chris Alexander from Nicosia University was advocating for a new feature in which a student will upload a file to submit files and the teacher can not only get the file and mark it (as it can now) but also being able to resubmit the corrected document back to the student.
So the use case goes as follow;
1. Student submits file
2. Teacher downloads the file uploaded by the student and give it a mark and uploads a modified copy of the student.
3. Option to "Notify student" (checkbox Off by default) when the teacher re-uploads the file is available. If checked email the student to notify her of this.
Note that by notifying the student we are *not* releasing the mark. That still remains hidden if the teacher has not release the marks.
The student can go back to the submit file and download the file uploaded by the teacher.
